About Deborah
Deborah Wingert is a passionate ballet teacher and stager, as well as a devoted mom and wife. Residing in Brooklyn, she is married to sculptor and realtor Elliott Arkin and is the proud mother of the remarkably talented Ava Arkin, a triple threat in singing, dancing, and acting. Deborah finds joy in sharing her extensive knowledge with students of all ages and continuously learns from them in return. Her love for travel allows her to spread the art of ballet to diverse communities.
With her younger students, Deborah is committed to providing an excellent foundation and instilling the skills necessary for them to thrive as dance enthusiasts. She finds great fulfillment in guiding older students as they discover new and often simpler ways to approach steps and combinations. In her staging work with the Balanchine Trust, Deborah enjoys witnessing dancers inhabit the choreography and make it their own. Their deep connection to the music enhances their artistic growth.
Outside of her professional life, Deborah cherishes time spent with her daughter, enjoying long walks with their 12-year-old black lab mix rescue dog, and embarking on amazing trips to places like London, Iceland, and Italy. She also enjoys reading and cooking in her leisure time.
